Instructional Technology Professional Development
This service is a statewide program that is committed to increasing student achievement through the NYS Model Schools technology staff development program. This program includes, but is not limited to, performance assessments using technology, the impact of the Internet in the classroom instruction, integration of software into the curriculum/assessments and research-based practice. The focus of all workshops is the NYS Learning Standards and the National Education Technology Standards (NETS).
These are the Model Schools components:Staff Development Planning activities assist district personnel with developing or updating staff development plans for gaining optimal service from existing resources, personnel, hardware, and software through training and preparation for subsequent growth.Staff Development Activities provide resources for training staff in the use of tool software, instructional software, telecommunications, and other technologies.Curriculum-based Applications of Technology generate a resource base of teaching strategies, lesson plans, and classroom-related activities developed by teachers as a product of their training.Telecommunications develops activities through electronic mail and internet for sharing lessons, activities, and strategies with other teachers throughout New York State and other school districts in the global community.Program Evaluation is key to monitoring progress and establishing future directions through dialogue with others.
The district will schedule a minimum of one day per year for planning and one day per year for program review with Western New York Regional Information Center (WNYRIC) Model Schools staffThe district will develop a Customized District Staff Development Plan aligned with its Instructional Technology Plan.The district will identify a Model Schools Coordinator/Contact to facilitate Model Schools activities.The District Model Schools Coordinator/Contact will coordinate the staff development days/site as identified in the service agreementThe district will budget substitute salaries and agree to release time for teachers/participating in the Model Schools activitiesDistrict participants will share information from Model Schools activities with district nonparticipantsDistrict determines the method of payments for services and signs participation forms
The WNYRIC utilizes cost effective best practices determined by research that allows our experienced and trained technical staff to perform robust testing and support of the WNYRIC network in the areas of security, infrastructure, energy management, virtualization strategies, disaster recovery and business continuity. Therefore, we are able to be a district advocate for vendor contract issues and aggressively negotiate contract pricing and performance terms. Staff follow best practices in order to provide necessary security as it relates to the most recent student, teacher and principal data security and privacy regulations.
