Long Term Suspension Program
The Long Term Suspension Program provides full day supervision and required instruction for high school students who have been suspended from school for 10 days or more. Instruction in each of the core content areas is provided by certified teachers. A school counselor provides student support. Program is offered at Northtowns Academy (Tonawanda) for high school students and Winchester Acdemy (West Seneca) for middle School students.
This suspension program allows for continued instruction as the student is away from their home district.
Students must be subject to/serving a term of suspension from school under a hearing, Superintendent's agreement or other leagal action by a Board of Education. This program can not be used as an educational placement for reasons other than discipliary action or direction to an Interim Alternative Educational Setting (AIES).
District Responsibilities:
- Provide lessons, textbooks and all necessary materials
- Transportation of students
- Grade all work
- Communicate with Boces staff
BOCES Responsibilities:
- Instruction in core content areas
- Supplement District provided curriculum/materials/textbooks
- On-line courses, as needed
- Collaboration with home school District counselor and administration to develop a re-entry/transition plan
- Services of guidance counselors
- Availability of special education consultant teachers for students with an IEP
- Provide supervision
- Provide formal evaluation of BOCES staff
- Complete all required paperwork
